Student Vincent Stewart secures the vacumm hose to a small battery operated vacuum sitting atop a metal cart with cleaning supplies

Parsons USD 503’s Transportation Department is always complimented during inspections for having some of the cleanest buses in the state.

Its activity transport vans receive the same praise thanks to the Partners in Grime, Vincent Stewart and Jacob Devins. The two Parsons High School students provide the service of cleaning the vans for the district following all the road trips.

Impressed with their hard work, and to help make the young men’s jobs easier, automotive teacher Brett Heady decided to surprise them with an industrial metal cart to hold all their cleaning supplies. Now they can wheel the loaded cart outdoors or move it around indoors as needed rather than juggling individual items.

“They just do a tremendous job and I think this will help them,” Heady said.

Heady made sure the cart came equipped with a windshield service center and large enough shelves to carry microfiber towels, cleaners, the battery-operated vacuum, and more.

Stewart and Devins put the cart together with the help of classmate Lee Mayes.

Heady said they are only waiting on the vinyl stickers that will go on it, and the guys will be good to go.

“Brett showed the cart to me a couple of weeks ago. It is a great idea and he was very proud of it,” said USD 503 Director of Transportation Rick Giefer. “I think that it is a great way to motivate the students to continue doing a great job cleaning the school vehicles.”
