Four Parsons High School senior varsity football players signed Letters of Intent with prospective colleges on Wednesday.

All four contributed significantly to the team’s impressive seasons during their high school careers.

Standing out among the players is running back Jahmarion Washington, who signed with Coffeyville Community College.

PHS Head Football Coach Jeff Schibi shared Washington’s stats from his admirable high school career. During the fall 2023 season, Washington had 226 carries. He broke the school records with 1,512 rushing yards and 142 points scored and he tied the school record with 23 touchdowns. He had 10 receptions for 107 yards.

His career totals also broke four more school records with a total of 484 carries, 3,060 yards, 41 touchdowns and 250 total points scored. He also had 20 receptions for 248 yards.

Schibi said kicker/punter Jayce Quirin had an impressive record as well. During the 2023 season, Quirin had 18 touchbacks, setting a new school record. In addition, h had 43 of 47 on point after attempts, which is a school record.

Quirin had two field goals made, one to ice the game against Labette County. He held a 35.3 punt average.

Examining his four-year high school football career, Quirin had 24 touchbacks. He had 96 of 106 PAT’s, setting a new record. He had four field goals made.

Quirin signed with Central Arkansas University. He is the first Division 1 football player from Parsons High School since 2005 when graduate RJ Armstrong signed with North Carolina State University. Folks in Parsons will have an opportunity to view Quirin playing on TV.

What is incredibly impressive about Quirin’s feats is the fact that he was in an accident at the end of his freshman year and his right kicking foot was crushed. His doctor’s said it was one of the worst breaks they had ever seen,” Schibi said. At that point Quirin’s focus was just on walking again, but then he worked and worked, committing hours upon hours to practicing kicking field goals at home and on the field.

“For those of you who don’t know what Jayce overcame, for him to be sitting at that table right now is really special,” Schibi said.

Linebacker/Tight End Cade Brown has helped lead the way for the transformation of the team, especially in the weight room, coach Schibi said. Brown signed with the University of Central Missouri. During the 2023 season, Brown had 100 tackles, and 15 tackles for loss (TFL). He had 8 receptions for 101 yards and three touchdowns. During his four-year career at PHS, Brown had 183 tackles, 24 TFL’s, two interceptions, 17 receptions for 314 yards and seven touchdowns.

Offensive lineman Sam Brewer rounded out the four, signing with Pittsburg State University. Schibi said Brewer has transformed into a really good football player, committing to transforming his body and became a dominating force this year in a crucial position. Schibi said they don’t have an exact count on how many pancakes Brewer had - putting defenders flat on their backs - but said it was more than 20.

Schibi said Brewer is a “really good kid and is going to be very successful in life regardless of what career path he chooses, and he’ll be very successful on the football field.”

Last year the PHS team only lost two games, each by one point. One loss was to Pittsburg and the other to the division champions by one point. All four of the players who were celebrated Wednesday lent highly to that record.
