Math has never been as much fun as Math Carnival Night at Garfield School, when parents and students come together for an evening to play math games, win prizes and enjoy dinner together.

Math x students + parents + teachers + prizes = fun times at Garfield School during Math Carnival Night Tuesday.

Thank you to all the families that came to our Math Carnival Night!! We hope you had a wonderful time! We wanted to do a special shout out to Mrs.Shafer and her students at Parsons High School who made the amazing chili and cinnamon rolls!!

Today we started student shout outs!! If another student sees a friend in their class doing something positive! They can write them a shout out card and give them a sticker or a sucker!!

We can't wait to see you there!!

Candy Corn math for our Friday fun!

After learning about the different ways engineers build bridges, the students tried their hand at designing and building the strongest bridge in the class. It was tested by how many pennies it took to collapse.

Teamwork @ Garfield!!!

One reading strategy is visualization. In this fun activity students listened to a poem and drew what they could see in their mind's eye at three points in the poem. The end of the poem had a fun twist. It was a great activity and Mrs. Tierney has super creative students!

Mrs. Tierney's class is learning syllable types. This week our spelling pattern is long a with a vowel consonant e or silent e pattern. Students watched a fun musical video about using this syllable type pattern and got to have some Mike and Ike candies!

We used our sequence words to create Cookie Monsters. We learned how important is to use details and transition words.

Students led math review sessions. Each kid had the opportunity to teach other student how to do a Math problem. We love teaching our friends.

The kids practiced making equal groups to solve multiplication problems by using goldfish in a pond (plate) each group is a net and the number of fish caught in the net was the number in each group. We had fun with lots of laughs and working our brain muscle.

Mrs. Jacquinot 's student chose to buy a Read To The Class coupon from our Friday swag store. She did an amazing job! The students loved it! She read with such great expression!

Students are enjoying their donuts they earned after filling in the class IXL hundreds chart!

Last week in Mrs. Shields' art class, 2nd grade learned about the different types of lines, an Element of Art. After exploring works of art by Gustav Klimt and his "Tree of Life" painting, they applied their new knowledge of line types by creating their own "Tree of Lines".

Practicing our "statue of liberty" in Garfield orchestra!

After reading The Dream Catcher, students made their own!
