We took advantage of the hot day and did a science experiment. Mrs. Tierney's students wanted to know if it was hot enough to melt crayons outside. It was! The black canvas reaches 147 degrees! The white reached 133 degrees. We now have an answered question and new art for class.

Did you know there are six syllable types? Second graders do! Mrs. Tierney's students learned more about open and closed syllables today and did a sorting activity to show what they learned! Knowing syllable types can help with decoding words as kids learn to read.

On Tuesday we started our first Go Math chapter by playing a game where we modeled numbers using unifix cubes. Students chose a number, modeled it and put their token on it. They tried to get three tokens in a row.

On Tuesday it was super hot out. Mrs. Tierney's class went out for a few minutes toward the end of the day after having our other recess indoors. The entire class helped pick up the playground balls and this group wheeled the cart inside. This class is so helpful!

Some morning STEM time and some indoor recess fun with STEM bins as well. I was told that the design with patterned blocks was carefully designed using blue and yellow because they are Viking colors.
