Thank you Kevin Cruse for coming to Garfield to explain to our 3rd graders your role as the mayor of Parsons! The students have spent the past two weeks learning about voting! This was a great way to end our unit!!

Amillya is my sunshine student of the week!! She is always working hard and trying her best!!

On Friday Mrs. Tierney's class made apple sauce and had apple turnovers. The students each peeled an apple and got to snack on a few rings from it while the rest was put in the crock pot to cook. The turnovers were made in an air fryer and our room smelled so good!

The applesauce was very tasty! As apples were peeled and cored we saved all of the scraps. We learned about ways to use all of the scraps. We talked about how composting is one way to reuse scraps. Our scraps were shared with Mrs. Tierney's chickens, turkeys, ducks and goats.

For fire safety week the Parsons Fire Department sent fire fighters to speak to students. They talked to them about fire safety and had them do a simulation of rolling out of bed during a fire and getting under the smoke and then out of the room.

For part of our apple unit students learned about the different parts of an apple. We talked about what parts are edible to humans and what parts animals can eat that humans don't really eat. The students also labeled the diagram as part of our second grade standards.

Our apple pies were a success! Love seeing the excitement in their eyes!

October is fire prevention month. Today we reviewed all of our safety rules and learned how to call 911.

There will be no school on Monday, October 16th.

October 11th was National Walk to a Park Day so Mrs. Tierney and Ms. Vaughn's class walked to the park together for afternoon recess. It was so much fun!

"The Kansans Can Star Recognition Program recognizes district success in the outcome measures Kansans told us they value, and it is clear that Parsons and other Kansas districts like yours are moving us closer to achieving the state's vision."
KSDE and the State Board are pleased to present Parsons the following recognition for 2023:
• Social-Emotional Growth - Silver
• High School Graduation - Bronze

Apple week continues for 2nd grade. Today Mrs. Tierney's class taste tested apples and chose our favorites. Students graphed the results and did a math worksheet using those results. Later they enjoyed more apple slices, this time with caramel and cream cheese fruit dip. So good!

Mrs.Waun's classroom is full of writers! We have been practicing writing opinion pieces for this first 9 weeks! We had some fun with this one and wrote about a silly animal that we wish we could have as a pet!

Thank you to the Parsons Rotary Club. They gave each third grade student a dictionary and ruler today. We are lucky to have such a great community that supports Parsons Schools.

Super proud of these students today! They did a wonderful job on their Johnny Appleseed readers theater! So happy so many parents and grandparents were able to make it. I know it's hard during the day.

It's a beautiful day for a besties picture at recess!

Adrian is my sunshine! He has been working hard trying to make his AR goal!! He can do anything!!

National walk to park day... we heard it's time to play!
